The state government today decided a long and challenging program for the ecological development of the waters in North Rhine-Westphalia. With the program "Living Waters" will be implemented by the European Water Framework Directive.

A survey had shown, that are met in North Rhine-Westphalia, the European requirements on wastewater treatment have already. Further improvement is needed in the Nährstoffausträgen from agriculture.
